Ken Taylor

While serving an apprenticeship as a slater, another natural material, I accidentally came across clay at the age of 20. Both crafts having a long tradition: skills passed down through many generations. Skills that are both utilitarian and at the same time contain that human element of evolved aesthetics.
There are many influences, I came into clay when Leach and his brigade were still in vogue and they were proclaiming Isaac Button as the last of the Mohicans. More recently we moved to France and its rural pots. We were there for 7 years and it made a difference.
At the moment I am working with a gas/wood kiln and a small soda kiln; I am also involved with the wood fired cross draft kiln at Thoresby and the wood fired kiln at Manor Top, Sheffield.
